YANGON, Jan. 3,, A total of 103 people were killed and 877 others injured in road accidents on Myanmar’s Yangon-Mandalay highway in 2018, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Thursday.
During the period, 473 traffic accidents were registered and reckless driving, over speeding, defective vehicles, inclement weather were blamed for the accidents.
There were a total of 555 road accidents, registering 116 dead and 863 injured on Myanmar’s busiest highway in 2017.
The highway authorities are now providing 24-hour services for the safety of travellers and the number of road safety police has been increased to 16 police stations along the road since 2012.
The 587 km-long highway, connecting the country’s commercial city Yangon and second largest city Mandalay, was opened to reduce the travel time between the two cities in December 2010. Enditem
