Kathmandu, Dec 31,, Police have arrested a foreign national and a Nepali woman from Kathmandu for their conning people using social networking site.
A team of police deployed by the Metropolitan Crime Division, Kathmandu has arrested Ivory Coast’s Obotar Alkagni and Kusum Kayastha from Kavrepalanchwok and currently staying in Pepsicola in Kathmandu who were found to be cheating people using Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber and Imo among other social networking sites.
The arrested ones were husband and wife who were found to be using Indian mobile number and conning people by luring them of parcels and lottery. They were found to have amassed more than Rs 1.4 million conning people.
According to police investigation, the couple was arrested from their rented apartment in Pepsi Cola. They are learned to dupe as many as eight people so far. The couple used to make calls to people and ask them to deposit a certain amount in various bank accounts of Kathmandu before getting the parcel.
Police have lodged the criminal case against them and launched further investigating into the case.
Police have also urged one and all to notify them if they have received any such dubious calls and SMS luring them of parcel or prizes.
