Kathmandu, Jan 22 ,, The Democrat Professors Association has expressed its serious attention over government interference in education sector.
At a press conference organized in the capital on Monday, Association President Jagat Timalsena said the brazen political intimidation and interference on the university – a place for healthy academic exercise – from government side has drawn serious attention of the Association.
The government decision to scrap the Kathmandu-based contact offices of the universities, banning Nepal Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor from attending the World Sanskrit Conference, disrespect, harassment and intimidation to the office-bearers and breach of university acts and rules at the behest of Education Minister, among others, are some of the evidences of interference propping up in universities, stated a release issued by the Association.
“Expulsions of appointments made by erstwhile governments, suspension of vice-chancellor and registrar of Sudurpaschim and Madhyapaschim universities and granting affiliation to the Agriculture and Forestry University on financial maneuverings also substantiate the evidence of interference in the university sector”, the release reads.
The Association has warned to launch strong protest if the government did not correct the interfering decisions on the matters of the universities, said President Timalsena in the conference. —
