NA vice chair, deputy speaker extend Women’s Day best wishes

Kathmandu, March 8 ,,  National Assembly (NA) vice chair Shashikala Dahal and deputy speaker of the House of Representatives Dr Shivamaya Tumbahamphe have congratulated all Nepali women at home and abroad on the occasion of the 109th International Women’s Day.
In separate messages of congratulations, the two wished the Nepali women peace, happiness, progress and prosperity on the occasion.
“Though the commencement of the International Women’s Day is marked by the political movement, now it has been established as a symbolic day for the rights of women, empowerment of women and gender equality,” the deputy speaker said, adding experiences and sufferings of women differ due to their socio-economic status, but still women share common problems and issues which have remained as barriers towards their advancement and empowerment.
According to her, various issues ranging from the status of the political rights of women to nature of incidences of violence against women are same. Though late, Nepal in the recent decades achieved a significant progress towards its efforts for ensuring women’s rights including the political one.
She described the concern of mass women over the efforts being made for bringing their rights to property and lineage guaranteed by the constitution into practices.
The NA vice chair recalled the recognition and guarantee of the rights of women as the fundamental rights of the citizen by the constitution and added the country’s main law is dedicated to building a proportional, inclusive and a just society by eliminating all sorts of discriminations.
