Waste collected from Sagarmatha

Solukhumbu, April 21  ,, Two thousand kilogrammes of solid waste has been collected from the Sagarmatha or Mt Everest region under the Sagarmatha Cleaning Campaign. Of them, 1,000 kgs were taken to Kathmandu and another 10,000 to Okhaldhunga via a Nepali Army helicopter for disposal, according to the Sagarmatha National Park.

The locally manageable waste has been managed at the Namche region itself. Bio-degradable waste has been taken to Okhaldhunga while non-degradable like plastic and bottles have been taken to Kathmandu, according to Chief of the Park Pramod Bhattarai. The cleanliness campaign was held from Lukla to Syangboche of the Khumbu region to mark the 12th International Sagarmatha Day.

The Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural municipality, Nepali Army, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Department of Forest and Environment, the Park buffer zone and Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee took part in the campaign that began from the first day of New Year 2076, added Bhattarai.
