Baglung, June 26 (RSS): Three people of the same family were killed when their house was swept away by a landslide triggered by heavy rain at local Dhullu Banskot, Bareng rural municipality-1 last night.
The victims are 40-year-old Bishnu Bahadur Chhetri, his wife 30-year-old Bishnu Maya Chhetri and their six-month-old daughter Sonia, police said. They were sleeping in the house when it was suddenly swept away by a big landslide. Their bodies have been pulled out of the debris. A cowshed near the house has also been swept away, it is learnt.
A police team from the Area Police Office Bareng and locals carried out rescue. Chhetris’ more two daughters are said to be at another place in course of their studies.
Rain throughout the night yesterday triggered flash floods and mudslides at many places in the district causing damage to infrastructures.
Landslide that occurred at Hugdishir has caused damage to the Bahrakot Primary School at Bareng rural municipality. The swollen Hugdikhola river has eroded large tracts of cultivated fields, said Prakash Chhantyal, a local.
Meanwhile, the Baglung section of the Mid-hills highway has become obstructed due to the deposition of mudslide debris at various points following heavy rain last night.
