NEW DELHI, Sept. 22 ,, Over two dozen special police officers (SPOs) in India-controled Kashmir have reportedly resigned, fearing for their lives, in the aftermath of alleged killing of three SPOs by suspected militants in the area on Friday, media reports said Saturday.
Though, the country’s home ministry, which looks after the internal security, denied the resignations saying such reports were “untrue”.
Videos of a few SPOs have gone viral on social media showing them saying that they are putting in their papers. In one of these videos a cop is seen as saying: “I am scared due to the prevailing situation and I
am resigning from the job. I have made an affidavit and brought the resignation form. On Thursday I visited the department for approval of my resignation.” The union home ministry termed the news of these resignations as untrue and “false propaganda”.
“Reports have appeared in a section of media that some SPOs in Jammu and Kashmir have resigned. J&K Police have confirmed that these reports are untrue & motivated. These reports are based on false propaganda by mischievous elements,” said a statement issued by the ministry.
According to the union home ministry, as many as 28 militants had been neutralized this year alone, as a result of which the militants’ motives had been frustrated.
Only on Friday morning as many as three policemen were abducted and killed by militants in Kashmir’s Shopian district. The Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, a terrorist group, had threatened these men
warning them to quit their jobs or face consequences. The tweeter handle run by the Kashmir Zone Police, said – “We have lost 3 of our brave colleagues in a barbaric terror strike. Our tribute to the 3 martyred soldiers – Nisar Ahmad, Firdous Kuchay & Kulwant Singh. We condemn this inhuman act and assure that all the culprits shall be dealt under law.”
