China’s success could open a window of opportunity for Nepal: Speaker Mahara

Kathmandu, Sept 24 ,,   Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Krishna Bahadur Mahara has opined that the stride China has made in terms of economy and physical infrastructures could bring immense opportunities for Nepal.
Addressing the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival organized in the capital on Monday by the China Culture Centre and the Cultural Department of Guizhou Province of China, Speaker Mahara said that Nepal could reap huge economic advantages from China’s prosperity.
Stating that the doctrine of Panchasheel had laid an important foundation for the expansion of multidimensional relations between Nepal and China, Mahara stated that the ties between Nepal and China are steadfast due to mutual respect, friendship, cooperation and collaboration.
Stating that the relation between Nepal and China dated back to fifth century, Mahara viewed that both countries were able to further consolidate the centuries-old ties although the tall and high Himalayas bordering the both countries tend to pose difficulty in proximity.
He argued that Nepal and China shared cultural, social and religious ties thousand years before the formal diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Furthermore, the Speaker of HoR asserted that cultural festivals such as the Mid Autumn Festival would help further strengthen the cultural and social bond between Nepal and China.
Lauding the rich arts, cultures and traditions of China, Mahara reminisced of his last visit to Tibet Autonomous Region of China and observation of cultures and traditions there and remarked that he was awe-struck by the rich culture and heritages of China.
On the occasion, Chinese Ambassador to China Yu Hong expressed her confidence that Nepal’s economic development would pick a pace as she said that a new constitution was already brought into effect and a new government has been formed following the three-tier elections.
The high-level visits of Nepal to China had aided in further consolidating the bilateral ties between these two countries.
She was of the view that by holding such festivals in Nepal, Nepalis could get to understand China and its cultures from close quarter.
On the occasion, Chinese artists had enthralled the visitors with their cultural dances and songs. In attendance at the event were Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Krishna Prasad Devkota, officials of the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu and the Chinese diaspora in Nepal as well as the Nepali sinophiles.
