Birgunj, April 5 ,, The District Administration Office, Bara has implemented a one-door policy in the distribution of relief assistance meant for the victims of the recent violent thunderstorm in Bara and Parsa.
The Office decided this in response to widespread complaints that the relief delivery was taking place in disorganized way. Now, any individuals or organisations aspiring to distribute relief assistance to the affected should first take permission from the District Disaster Management Committee, according to Bara’s Chief District Officer Rajesh Poudel. According to DAO’s information officer Murari Karki, there were massive complaints that real victims were deprived of the assistance due to its distribution in a disorganized way.
No person or organisation from today is allowed to reach the affected areas with relief materials without the DAO’s coordination. A health desk has been established to the entrance of settlements to verify the distribution. Meanwhile, according to the statistics issued by the DAO Bara, a total of 940 houses were completely destroyed by the storm, 955 were partially damaged while the number of the dead is 27 in the district. Bharbaliya of Pheta rural municipality-1, one of the most affected areas, where 130 houses were torn down and 60 houses suffered partial damages reports the deaths of six people. Similarly, the storm completely damaged 55 houses in Purainiya, inflicting partial damages on 25 houses. The highest death is also from the village as 12 people had lost their lives to the freak incident.
Nine houses were destroyed and six were partially damaged at Gamhariya of Pheta rural municipality-7. The storm demolished 62 houses at Bagahi and Charmohana of Suwarna rural municipality-1, damaging 19 houses partially while the Hardiya witnessed the complete destruction of 94 houses where 176 were partially damaged. At Aurahi, the storm completely dismantled 39 houses and partially damaged 27 houses. At Parasurampur, 75 houses were completely destroyed and 45 were partially damaged. —
