Janakpurdham, Feb 19 (RSS): Province 2 minister for internal affairs and law Gyanendra Yadav has said the province government has seriously taken a proposal submitted by the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) along with its provincial concept.
In his address to an interaction on the ‘Role of RSS in Federal Structure’, organised in Janakpur, the capital of province 2, on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of RSS, he said the (province) government received a proposal from the RSS with suggestions on how to take the RSS ahead as per its federal structure and the province government was serious towards that end.
As he said, attempt has been made to incorporate the proposal in the communications bill registered in the House. He assured of a separate bylaws for the RSS. The bill was registered in the House following intensive discussions and it would be introduced to the State Assembly upcoming meeting scheduled for February 27 and an endorsement of the bill would pave away to the formation of a province-level Press Council, expressing the government’s committed towards free press,
In the context when the constitution has guaranteed province governments’ right to deal with police and security issues, an attempt to keep the Chief District Officer above the province government was intended at making the federalism weaker.
Senior journalists Rajeshwor Nepali advised the RSS to improve the quality of its services and serve as a pool between the government and people. Another senior journalist and litterateur Ram Bharos Kapadi was of the view that competitiveness feeling on the part of RSS was necessary as per the need of time. “A policy is required for career enhancement, and capacity building of RSS journalists and employees.”
RSS province 2 chief Himanshu Chaudhary presided over the programme where Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) central member Shailendra Jha; FNJ province 2 general secretary Kiran Karna; FNJ Dhanusha chair Anil Mishra; and Community Radio Broadcasters Association province 2 chair Ashok Dutta expressed their concerns over growing culture of political appointments at RSS, claiming that such culture had sent a negative message to public. “Disciplined, impartial, public welfare, research and fact-based RSS is the need of the hour.” It was a matter of sadness that the Working Journalist Act was yet to be implemented by every media, they said.
On the occasion, journalist Nepali who had his outstanding contribution to the RSS reporting since its establishment, was honoured.
Similarly, Arun Kumar Yadav (Saptari) was awarded the ‘ best stringer award’ while Sanjit Kumar Mandal ( Mahottari- towards ‘best feature news’ and Bijay Kumar Mahato ( Parsa- towards the ‘best photo category’) were honoured with a cash price of Rs 5,000 and letter of appreciation each by the minister.
