YANGON, June 16 (Xinhua) — Myanmar authorities sent 23,204 migrant workers to foreign countries in May, the local Standard Time Daily reported Saturday.
Of them, 20,812 workers were sent to neighbor Thailand while 1,603 to Malaysia, 342 to South Korea, 201 to Japan and others to Jordan, Singapore, China’s Macao, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar.
Meanwhile, the country offered local employment to 13,096 workers during the period.From January to May, a total of 89,819 migrant workers were sent abroad while about 87,610 local employment were offered.
Aiming to increase the income of workers, the Ministry of Labor, Immigration and Population has been exerting efforts to offer job opportunities for workers both at home and abroad via new online labor exchange management system. Enditem
