NC demands National Medical Education Bill in line with Mathema Commission report

Kathmandu, July 18(RSS):The main opposition Nepali Congress has called on the government to bring the National Medical Education Bill in line with the ordinance to this regard issued by the erstwhile government. The government has been urged to present the bill, meeting the aspirations of the Mathema Commission report.
A meeting of the party office-bearers took place today at party President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s private residence at Budhanilkantha decided to react in the federal parliament to the State Assemblies if the bill is presented in a meeting of the House of Representatives scheduled for tomorrow as it is. The main opposition has warned the government not to bring the bill by going against the spirit of the Mathema Commission, NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma told the RSS.
The party decided to organise protest meetings from July 19, expressing its disconsent over some of the government activities. In the meeting, the party president instructed the bodies concerned to take immediate measures for settling disputes emerged in the Nepal Students Union, party’s student wing.
According to leader Deuba, he and party senior leader Ramchandra Poudel have agreed on the issue of creating the party statute drafting committee and the committee comprising nine to 11 members will likely be formed tomorrow.
It may be noted that the NC central executive committee meeting last April had agreed to form the statute amendment committee for making timely revisions (as per a new federal setup in the country) to its existing statute.
Preparation is underway to hold NC’s Maha Samiti meeting sometime next month to mull over matters relating to the party statute and its amendment after collecting feedbacks from the various rung of the party.
Present at the meeting were NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala and Purna Bahadur Khadka, Spokesperson Sharma, Chief Whip Bal Krishna Khaand, its Central Committee member Arjun Narsahing KC and Minendra Rijal, among others.
Dahal appointed Director of NC’s Training Academy
Meanwhile, Purusottam Dahal has been appointed as the Director of NC’s Central Policy and Training Academy.
According to a press statement released by NC’s Central Office’s Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel here today, NC’s Vice-President and Academy’s Chief Bimalendra Nidhi appointed Dahal in the position today according to the NC’s Statute.
A local resident of Okhaldhunga, Dahal is active in journalism since four decades and has been in teaching profession since 34 years. A litterateur and human right activist, he has been participating in several democratic movements since 2031 BS.
The newly appointed Director has already served as the member of the NC’s Central Publicity Department from 2041 BS- 2056 BS.
