Nepal Communist Party (NCP) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said all should be honest towards ideological and political commitments and consensus. In his address to a ceremony organised in memory martyr Rit Bahadur Khadka at the party central office Dhumbarahi today, leader Dahal was of the view that the NCP should implement agreements made during the unification process and should further develop and revise its thoughts, ideology, political vision and work policies. The party unification was carried out on the basis of clear understandings and it was made principally. “We are compelled to live up to our promises we made before the people and it would be a deception to the nation and Nepali people.” Stating that two parties (the then CPN-UML and CPN Maoist-Centre) were united with the objective of achieving the goal of socialism on the direction and guidelines of Marxism, he assured the unification process would be taken to a logical conclusion as per its spirit, despite some challenges seen on its way. He stressed the need of further strengthening party unity, completing the remaining works and being committed to agreements. The programme was organised by Martyr Rit Bahadur Khadka Memorial Trust. “A history marking the beginning of extraordinary work has been created by uniting two big communist parties to form the NCP,” he said, adding that although some might have faced confusions due to lack of clear understanding of the goal of unification. He went on to say that party’s future course of action was determined while preparing a political report collectively on the consent of senior leaderships of both factions. The role played by both parties in the contemporary situation to address the people’s wishes was positively evaluated in the political report, he said. As he said, to move ahead by accepting the spirit of sacrifices and respecting and institutionalising sacrifices of martyrs and contribution of many working class people is to follow a path of revolution in a true sense. “This is not time to be disappointed, rather dedications are needed to realize the dream of martyrs being committed to the goal.” He remembered Khadka as an upcoming dynamic, creative and multi-dimensional personality who had deep faith in the communist ideology and leadership. “Khadka concluded that the communist movement could not produce positive results without the defence of the party’s ideology and leadership,” he said. NCP standing committee member Janardan Sharma said there was no alternative to moving ahead sincerely to address the people’s aspirations for change. NCP standing committee member and Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Matrika Prasad Yadav said he found martyr Khadka as a relentless fighter for revolution. He added that taking right step in support of liberation would be a true tribute to the martyrs. State 3 State Assembly member Pashupati Chaulagain said finalizing the party’s unification would be true tribute to the martyr Khadka. Khadka, born in Jugu of Dolakha district on Bhadau 10, 2028 BS, joined politics while studying in grade eight at Jiri Secondary School. He started his political career as the treasurer of the then All Nepal National Independent Students Union (ANNISU) Fifth primary committee. Later on he held various positions in the students’ organization after passing the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination in 2046 BS. He later joined the CPN (Maoist) and went underground in 2052 after the party launched the people’s movement. He was arrested by police on Asar 2, 2059 at Pipara of Rautahat and killed while returning after attending a party meeting abroad during the time of the people’s war.
