Kathmandu, Dec 29,, Speakers at a programme have underscored the need to intensify Nepal-Sri Lanka relations in the promotion of trade and commerce as well.
The expansion of six-decade long relations could be ensured with direct air connectivity between the two countries.
During a programme on Nepal- Sri Lanka Economic Relations Promotion, the industrialists from Nepal and Sri Lanka recently were univocal on demand of the strong connectivity.
Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal, Swarna Perara, said the Sri Lanka government was committing to increase the trade promotion between the two countries.
According to him, 50 Sri Lankan companies were investing in the South Asian countries, so they would be encouraged to invest in Nepal too.
He shared the information that Sri Lankan government was financially assisting Nepal for the reconstruction of Anandakuti monastery and Rato Machhindranath temple which were damaged by the 2015 earthquake.
Chairman of the Nepal-Sri Lanka Association of Industries and Commerce, Ramesh Maharjan, informed that nearly 50,000 Sri Lankan people visited Nepal’s historical and religious sites, while nearly 5,000 Nepalis visited Sri Lanka in 2018.
