Kathmandu, Aug 5 (RSS): The National Human Rights Commission has urged the concerned sides to be sensitive towards the self-respect of the Badi community.
Issuing a press release on Sunday, NHRC spokesperson Mohana Ansari urged for ensuring right to live with dignity and right to human rights of the community.
The press release further reads that some terms and references used in a movie titled ‘Pandit Bajeko Lauri’ (A stick of an elder priest) and fictions entitled Nathiya and Ailani have hurt the dignity and have violated the human rights of the Badi women.
Earlier, the National Badi Council had submitted a memorandum to the NHRC in this regard. The council had drawn attention of the film producers and writers of the fictions in this regard.
The commission has stated that it has drawn the attention of Government of Nepal and Ministry of Communication and Information Technology relating to these issues.
The commission has urged all to be alert regarding the issues of constitutional provisions as the article 16 of the constitution has the provision of Right to live with dignity and article 24 of Right against untouchability and discrimination.
