No need to panic with Civil and Criminal Codes

Kathmandu, Aug 17 , Experts have said entrepreneurs need not panic with the new Civil and Criminal Codes, brought to replace the 165-year old civil code.
At a programme organaised here Friday, leader of Communist Party of Nepal and lawmaker Ram Narayan Bidari said the laws unanimously passed by the Parliament one year back as per the constitution has been brought into effect from today (Bhadra 1).
He argued those doing any business in a legitimate manner should not panic with the Civil and Criminal Code.
Welcoming the laws brought into effect from today replacing 165-year-old Civil Code, President of Nepal Bar Association, Sher Bahadur KC, said that 40 clauses of new Codes were on amendment process.
KC shared the information that 60 per cent of clauses of the Civil Code were kept intact while adding 20 per cent new clauses added in the new Civil Code.
However, Chairperson of Nepal Medical Association, Mukti Shrestha, protested the new Code, arguing that it had the provision which could even charge doctors of murder. He, however, said the Association postponed its protest after being assured of amendment on it.
Senior journalist Harihar Birahi said the government has brought the new Civil Code with an intention to control journalists from carrying out investigative reporters over the issues of corruption and financial irregularities.
