Kathmandu, June 20 ,, A week-long campaign against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has begun from today. The Home Ministry has launched the week-long campaign from today till June 27 under the slogan ‘ Drug-free healthy life for building a prosperous nation’. On the occasion, Home Secretary Prem Kumar Rai expressed the belief that the campaign would help reduce the use drugs as number of drug abusers is increasing every year in the country. He said, “The recent survey shows that the number of drug abusers has increased by 11.36 per cent every year and out of total criminal incidents, seven per cent is related with drug. So it is responsibility of all to control it.” Rai further said that the campaign would help to control the drug abuse as around 150,000 youths are now involved in drug addiction in Nepal. Similarly, Joint-Secretary at the Home Ministry and Coordinator of the campaign, Narayan Prasad Duwadi, said that a special campaign is going to be launched at centre, states and local levels to control drug abuse and its illegal trafficking. Different programmes including awareness programme in media, destroying marijuana and opium cultivation would be organised under the week-long campaign, according to the Home Ministry.
